Every release of a new version of ERP generates the same internal debate: do we really need it?
For businesses using Oracle NetSuite, the answer is not always clear. A new feature can potentially solve a month’s worth of frustration for the finance team. However, other features can provide little to no impact on the day-to-day work of the team.
For these reasons, SuiteWorld 2026 is worth the attention it receives. Between October 25 and 28, the Oracle team will be in Las Vegas to show what they are working on and what is coming next.
Of course, AI is a major part of what they have been working on. NetSuite Next and Ask Oracle demonstrate what a different way of working with business information means. Other changes cover Financial Analysis and Subscription Management, as well as integrations with third-party applications.
While announcing changes is important, what is also important is whether a change is actually going to be useful. From the perspective of businesses in Australia and the APAC region, what is actually going to be made available is equally important. A change offered to the market in one region may not be made available to another region. Also, a new feature may not address a business need.
Rather than treating every change as a mandate, we should assess what a change means, when it will be useful, and what existing NetSuite customers should take into consideration before making any decisions.
1. NetSuite Next: A Different Way to Work with ERP
NetSuite Next is an evolution in NetSuite’s roadmap with a focus on extending AI within its ERP solution. Currently, their focus on AI is via a Chrome Extension and other standalone tools.
NetSuite Next leverages the existing environment and infrastructure that businesses have invested in, and blends it with an enhanced user experience (including AI) across business processes, records, and analytics. Organizations can get a firsthand look at NetSuite Next via a preview account to evaluate the various options available to them. The release has been limited to customers in the US and Canada, with other regions to be announced later. Details about Oracle’s NetSuite Next.
What is The Impact on Existing Customers?
An example would be an employee who spends a lot of their day navigating between records and reports to get the information they need. What if there were a quicker way to get the information? Depending on what the information is and why it is needed, AI could be a huge time saver.
What Should Businesses Do?
Think about the places where employees currently struggle with NetSuite. Talk to the people on the finance, ops, and other teams who use the system the most. This gives you a baseline to evaluate the improved experience that is available for your account.
2. Ask Oracle: Can Employees Find Answers More Easily?
With Ask Oracle, users can interact with NetSuite using conversational language, rather than through a traditional menu system. It can be used to retrieve data, create reports, or navigate to particular records.
Ask Oracle is part of the NetSuite Next experience and is available to customers in the U.S. and Canada. Other regions are expected to follow. Businesses in APAC, including Australia, should check regional availability before including this in an upgrade or implementation plan.
The concept is fairly straightforward. Most of us aren’t trained to think about systems in terms of record types and report configurations. We think about the information that helps us do our job.
Asking the system to retrieve the info you need could, in theory, streamline the process. Employees in all lines of business could see productivity improvements.
This doesn’t mean every answer should be accepted. Employees still have to validate the figures, analyze how the information is derived, and work within the access permissions of their role. Routine checks remain required for financial reporting and other important decisions.
What is the existing process like for saved searches, dashboards, and reports? How will Ask Oracle change that? While it may change how employees access data, it won’t eliminate the need for properly maintained data and intelligent reporting.
3. AI in Finance: More Useful Than Another Dashboard?
This is where the recent NetSuite updates focus on clear, practical application. In NetSuite 2026.2, updates have been made to assist accounting teams in investigating transactions, understanding changes in account balances, and analyzing changes in labor costs.
For example, in NetSuite 2026.2, they have introduced the NetSuite Intelligent Flux Analysis feature to assist controllers in explaining changes in account balances. Instead of always having to start from scratch to compare account balances and come up with explanations, they can use the analysis generated by the feature as a starting point.
NetSuite 2026.2 also includes updates related to labor costs to help finance leadership understand the cost and profitability of the workforce. Source: Oracle’s NetSuite 2026.2 Finance update.
These are useful examples, as they relate to the work the finance team is already doing.
Month-end closing is labor-intensive and time-consuming. When a system can point the team in the right direction for a variance, the team can spend more time reviewing the analysis.
That said, AI explanations can’t always be the final word. Finance teams still need to validate the numbers and context before explaining them for management reporting or making decisions based on them.
A better starting point is addressing a recurring time-consuming task, like investigating why an account balance movement is different from what was expected. Identifying such a task is more important than implementing a feature because it uses AI.
4. Industry-Specific Updates: Different Businesses, Different Priorities
Not every NetSuite customer is the same. A software business that manages recurring revenue is not on par with a healthcare business or a restaurant group. Recent updates to NetSuite reflect some of these differences.
Subscription businesses
New features in NetSuite 2026.2 help subscription-based businesses and software manage usage billing and renewals. The updates bring views to help teams evaluate potential future revenue streams and integrate usage charges, and help identify renewal risks.
These features should be assessed by businesses that have many subscription plans, usage-based charges, or a high number of renewals. The main question should be whether the existing process helps the sales, finance, and customer teams surface potential future revenue streams, and whether it identifies accounts that may need attention.
Healthcare Organizations
The update includes a healthcare dashboard that consolidates financial and operational data. Compliance 360 also receives updates on audit workflows, role-based access, and compliance reporting.
Access controls and the reports associated with them are crucial for healthcare organizations. Employees must be able to evaluate who has access to what, and how various responsibilities are assigned to different users. For example, are the right reports available to support the user’s operational and compliance needs?
Restaurant Operations
Oracle’s NetSuite Restaurant Operations SuiteApp consolidates various functions, including procurement and inventory, recipe and menu management, production and planning, cash, staff, and POS integration.
For a group operating multiple restaurant locations, integrating these functions allows them to analyze staffing, food costs, and location performance, to name a few. The actual impact of these features will depend on the systems being replaced and how consistently each location records data.
Not all industry functions will apply to all businesses. Companies should identify the relevant functions and ensure the applicable licensing, regional considerations, and integration requirements are met prior to altering their business processes.
5. Integrations: NetSuite Works with Other Systems
Most companies use multiple systems to support their business functions. For example, HR and payroll functions may reside in a different system from customer communications, and so on. The challenge is integrating systems to ensure that data is moved reliably.
NetSuite 2026.2 includes integration-related updates such as a connector to ADP Workforce Now to sync selected employee and payroll data to NetSuite, extended integration with Outlook to sync email and calendar, and support for agent-driven orchestration in the NetSuite Integration Platform.
The release offers predictive models for the NetSuite Analytics Warehouse around spend classification and product recommendations.
Of more immediate impact are questions about integrations: where is information still being transferred manually, or where do employees need to switch between applications to complete a task?
Integrations can reduce the need for repeated data entry. As with any integration, the configuration (error tolerance and ownership of the data) determines the benefit (if any) the organization realizes from the integration.
Agent-driven orchestration supports integrations that are focused on sequencing various activities in end-to-end processes. However, businesses need to understand the workflows supported and exceptions handled by the integration before relying on it.
The 2026.2 release allows organizations to evaluate their existing integrations. The starting point should be understanding how the new capabilities compare to existing requirements.
What Should Existing NetSuite Customers Do Next?
A major release can generate a sense of urgency to review everything. However, in practice, a focused review is often easier to manage. The 2026.2 release provides a good starting point to evaluate existing integrations.
Start with the issues your teams know about. Is finance spending too much time explaining monthly variances? Is operations unable to reconcile information across systems? Is subscription reporting not giving the business enough visibility into renewals? These are concrete issues you can use to evaluate a new feature.
Also, consider what is actually provided to your account. Different features of NetSuite can be rolled out to different accounts and at different times. NetSuite Next and Ask Oracle are currently listed as available to customers in the United States and Canada, with other countries to follow. Businesses in Australia and APAC should not assume that every announced capability is ready for their use.
Consider as well the impact on existing business processes. There are numerous ways to customize NetSuite to meet your business needs (i.e., roles, integrations, workflows, etc.), and how a new feature functions within NetSuite will be impacted by existing customizations and configurations. Therefore, it is best to perform a feature function evaluation based on your business needs and processes rather than just the feature description.
Lastly, a sensible review should cover the following:
Business need: Which recurring problem is the feature addressing?
Availability and fit: Is it available for your region/account and does it integrate with your current business processes?
Practical value: What is the impact on existing processes, and how will you measure if that change was an improvement?
Not every new feature needs to be adopted. It is best to align the new feature to your core business needs and processes.

Conclusion
With the recent release of NetSuite 2026.2 and its updates at SuiteWorld 2026, several trends have become evident with respect to NetSuite’s investment and focus for the next 12-18 months. Main areas of investment and focus have been on AI assistance for tasks, financial visibility, industry-specific requirements, and integration for business applications.
Different features and functionalities may be beneficial to clients immediately. Others may need further consideration, for example, the context of existing integrations or customizations.
For clients based in APAC (particularly Australia), the focus should not be on deployment of every new feature, but rather on understanding the features available, where processes may benefit from new features, and testing.
A release review becomes beneficial when features that address real business needs are identified, as opposed to counting new features in a release.
